Free Concert -San Diego Harp Society
3:00 PM - Sunday, April 19, 2015
1 Hour

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 at the Visitor Center theater at Mission Trails Regional Park, allowing for an intimate setting and a rich, acoustically-enhanced listening experience for the audience. The concert will be free for guests, though space is limited and concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to the event. Four young harpists will represent the San Diego Harp Society for the concert. All four are accomplished local musicians that play harps approximately six feet tall.

Accomplished harpist Stefano Colmignoli, 16, has been playing harp since he was eight years old. Colmignoli has already traveled internationally several times to play in high-profile venues including Carnegie Hall, the White House, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, U.S. State Department, several venues in Austria and the World Harp Congress in Sydney, Australia. He is a member of the Civic Youth Orchestra in North County.

While Del Norte High School student Mano Morikawa might be only 15, she has already racked up an impressive array of awards and accomplishments. She placed first at the University of Redlands Summer Harp Camp Solo competition and was a finalist at the San Diego Symphony Hot Shots Young Artist Concerto competition this year. Morikawa is the principal harpist at the Civic Youth Orchestra.

At 14 years of age, New Jersey native Katie Chan consistently brings the professionalism and passion of harpists twice her age to the stage. A multi-talented musician, Chan has been playing the harp for four years and the piano for seven.

Julia Yang, the youngest of the group at age 13, has been playing the harp for three years. Yang plays in San Diego’s Youth Symphony Sinfonia ensemble and is currently preparing for the 2015 American Harp Society competition in the Intermediate I Division, where she will face other similar-aged artists in the country’s largest harp competition.

The concert is part of Mission Trail Regional Park Foundation’s free concert series, designed to showcase Mission Trails Regional Park as San Diego’s premiere educational and recreational resource. Admission is free.  The theater holds 93 people and seats are on a first come, first serve basis.
