Join MTRP Trail Guide and amateur astronomer, George Varga, at the far end of the Kumeyaay Lake Campground's Day Use Parking Lot, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. A telescope will be available to view the nighttime sky! In consideration of others, no lanterns or white-light flashlights are permitted near the telescope. * Note: Cancelled if raining or cloudy.
The Moon will be four days past being Full so it will not be visible during the star party. Saturn and Mars will be almost overhead. Scorpius and Sagittarius will present a number of Messier Objects to view, among them Globular Cluster M4, Open Clusters M6 and M7, and the Lagoon Nebula (M8). In Lyra the Ring Nebula (M57) will be quite a sight, although dim. Also for viewing will be the Dumbbell Nebula (M27)
