Join MTRP Trail Guide and amateur astronomer, George Varga, at the far end of the Kumeyaay Lake Campground's Day Use Parking Lot, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A telescope will be available to view the nighttime sky! In consideration of others, no lanterns or white-light flashlights are permitted near the telescope. * Note: Cancelled if raining or cloudy.
There will be no Moon visible during the star party as it will not rise until about 0100 (1:00 a.m.) on the 19th. Planets Venus and Mars will be in the Southwestern sky. The Orion Nebula (M42), Open Clusters M36, M37, M38 in Auriga and M35 in Gemini are well placed for viewing. The Andromeda Galaxy M31 and companion M32 are up for viewing also.
