Join MTRP Trail Guide and amateur astronomer, George Varga, at the far end of the Kumeyaay Lake Campground's Day Use Parking Lot, from 6 to 9 p.m. A telescope will be available to view the nighttime sky! In consideration of others, no lanterns or white-light flashlights are permitted near the telescope. * Note: Cancelled if raining or cloudy.
The Moon will be at First Quarter and waxing. Many Open Clusters in Auriga, Gemini and Canis Major will be up. The Orion Nebula (M42) will be to the west of the Meridian, the imaginary great circle that intersects with the North and South Celestial Poles and passes through the observer’s position. Mars will be in the Western sky and visible if not blocked out by the Fortuna Range to the West. Jupiter will be very low in the Eastern sky as the Star Party ends.
