7:30 PM - Saturday, June 17, 2017
Join MTRP Trail Guide and amateur astronomer, George Varga, at the far end of the Kumeyaay Lake Campground's Day Use Parking Lot, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. A telescope will be available to view the nighttime sky! In consideration of others, no lanterns or white-light flashlights are permitted near the telescope. * Note: Cancelled if raining or cloudy.
The Moon will be at Last Quarter phase and rise about midnight and will not add to light pollution. Jupiter will be in the Southwestern sky while Saturn will be low in the Southeastern sky. Double Star Alcor/Mizar in Ursa Major is well placed for viewing, as are Globular Clusters M13 and M92 in Hercules. The Ring Nebula, M57, in Lyra will be high enough for viewing.
