The Mission Trails Regional Park Gift Shop has over 150 titles for adults and children. These books deal with the natural world as well as outdoor nature activities and many are specific to the San Diego region. Our own Mission Trails Regional Park Offical Guidbook by Pam Crooks will help you to discover everything we have to offer. Below are just a few more of the interesting items on hand.

Native Plants: Torrey Pines State Reserve and Nearby San Diego County Locations, by Margaret L. Fillius.
This book is intended to help beginners identify many of the California native plants they are likely to see in western San Diego County. The intention is to make it possible to identify a plant at different stages. For most species, a photograph shows the plant in its habitat, and its general structure. Details of the flower, leaf or fruit are illustrated to help identify the plant at different stages.

THE CUYAMACAS: THE STORY OF SAN DIEGO'S HIGH COUNTRY, by Leland Fetzer
From a review by Richard L. Carrico - What makes this book so readable and entertaining is the author's zeal for the places and the stories. It is clear that Fetzer is passionate about the Cuyamacas and that he can wrap a good story around that passion. A retired San Diego State University professor with a wonderful book on San Diego place names already under his belt, Febzer blends fact and folklore to present a charming and accessible story. The author provides an extensive and usable bibliography for those reasers who might want to explore the primary and secondary sources in depth.

CAMPGROUNDS OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY by Jeff Tyler
This title is the only guidebook for this area to contain the latest field-checked descriptions of all its public campgrounds. It contains maps, directions to each site, and a directory of useful phone numbers and addresses.

PACIFIC PEAKS AND PICNICS by Linda Mcmillin Pyle
A guide to hiking and biking trails and natural history of both popular and off-the-beaten track areas of the county, it also contains 55 tempting "trail-tested" recipes.

AFOOT AND AFIELD IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY by Jerry Schad
This third, expanded edition of the county's first and only comprehensive hiking guidebook contains detailed information on 220 hiking opportunities spread over more than 1500 square miles of public land.

SAN DIEGO, AN INTRODUCTION TO THE REGION by Philip R. Pyde
Whether you are new to the area or a long time resident, this fourth edition volume will tell you almost everything you need to know about the regional, historical and geographic facts of the region.

BIRDS OF SAN DIEGO by Chris Fisher & Herbert Clarke
This easy-to-use and beautifully illustrated guidebook will help you identify the feathered strangers nibbling at the feeder in your backyard or singing from a nearby tree. It's packed with notes on 125 common and interesting bird species in and around San Diego.

ENDURING WISDOM Selected by Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve & illustrated by Synthia Saint James
Thes saying from Native Americans come from many tribes.

SOLDIERS, SCOUNDRELS, POETS AND PRIESTS by David J. McLaughlin
The living history of California's missions is a mosaic of piety and passion, heroism and greed. This book puts flesh and blood on a profoundly important time in California's history, an extended time of evolution from wilderness to territory to state.
